For the love of leather

Do you wonder why belts, wallets, and bags sold at bargain prices in big box stores only last for a few months despite being advertised as “genuine leather”? Have you ever noticed how some leather goods seem to look worn and tattered while other items pick up a rich, beautiful glow from hard use? Most importantly, are you the type of person who leans into the organic aspect of leather goods, embraces its imperfect natural qualities, and want to earn the patina by feeding it little bits of life every day?

Let’s be honest… not everyone wants or needs what we make. If they don’t see the value, that’s okay. It doesn’t make them wrong — it just means they have different priorities and are looking for something else.

If, however, you want to know what makes Hide and Hatch leather goods genuinely better, just ask. Our belts will last many years, probably decades. Even our less expensive belts are still the highest quality. They feature less embellishments, but they aren’t lower cost because we cut corners. Our belts won’t stretch to the point of being unusable. The holes won’t tear out. We don’t use cardboard and other filler. Our leather isn’t some kind of composite material that stretches the definition of “leather”. It’s not low grade, sanded hide that is coated with rubber or plastic to make it look pristine until you wear it for a couple of weeks and it starts flaking off. If you choose an item featuring leather carving, know that it is traced by hand, cut by hand, beveled by hand, antiqued by hand… not shallowly and generically embossed by a roller machine in an overseas factory in a couple of seconds.
