This is a single-layer vegetable-tanned leash. So, while it’s still strong, it’s also best for smaller dogs or those that aren’t “pullers”. Note that in order to ensure sufficient strength and prevent stretching, this style leash cannot be extremely narrow / thin. A machine-made straight stitch is more than durable enough for a long life in a low-stress seam like a wallet. However, hand sewing is more traditional, allows the use of waxed thread, and avoids any of the typical extra marks / dents inevitably made in the leather by a sewing machine’s presser feet.
