What is it (and why does Hide & Hatch offer it)?

A modern, computer-controlled technology like a high wattage MOPA fiber laser might seem to be an odd pairing with old world, handcrafted leather working. But by taking advantage of the ability to cut and engrave brass, steel, copper, titanium, and aluminum allows us to create truly unique items that aren’t offered by other sources of either leather good or laser products alone. This includes completely custom:

  • Metal name tags for pet collars,

  • Unique key fobs items,

  • Challenge coins,

  • Specialized conchos,

  • Individualized belt and strap buckles, snaps, screw heads, and rivets,

  • Brass stamps and maker marks,

  • Knife and firearm parts, slides, cylinders, frames, and magazine engraving,

  • Drinkware / tumbler / water bottle designs,

  • Jewelry, earrings, charms, and pendants,

  • Slate for coasters, and more.

Our laser engraving services are not limited to only wood and plastic and will cut deeply through metal instead of merely etching the surface. This requires an expensive fiber laser, and cannot be duplicated by others that are using diode, CO2, or infrared lasers. (We have a diode laser, too, if you need us to cut or engrave veg-tanned leather, colored acrylic, or wood for you).

Hide and Hatch’s fiber laser is a specialized, high wattage MOPA, meaning that we have ultimate control over the process. This allows us to fine tune even the color of the engraving on items such as steel and titanium — something that even the more common fiber lasers are unable to do. We can’t claim to be the only ones to use this type of laser, but we can say that a vast majority of the others offering laser engraving services are unable to duplicate this.

Our laser capabilities allow us to create special goods that integrate customized metal embellishments. However, we would love the opportunity to provide you with a beautifully engraved item even if there is zero leather involved! This can include helping you with designing the original vector artwork (using Adobe Illustrator), if needed.
